Hi my name is...
Chuck Gibson
and i build things for the web
I am a self-taught Full stack developer, and it is my goal to build apps and software that people would love to use
About Me

I am from Canada and am an aspiring coder.
Growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, I always had a fascination with computers, space, technology, AI, and how's things worked. Coding and web development are a natural progression of that for me. Building functional and helpful Apps for the future
But growing up in small-town Saskatchewan, I did not see many opportunities in the tech industry. Smartphones did not yet exist, and Facebook and Google were just fledgling websites.
So I did what I knew how to do to pay the bills and found work in the trades and building material industries.
It was good. It paid my debts but never left me feeling fulfilled at the end of the day. It was a job, but it never felt like a career. Working 55-60+ hours per week outside in all weather conditions. It also left me desiring a better work/life balance.
When the pandemic hit, I saw a shift to not only online learning, but remote working as well. Although my job was secure with the temporary increased demand from Do-it-yourselfers stuck at home. The increase in reliance on online services like Amazon, Twitch, and Zoom. The discovery of Open source projects like Glimesh where the community can contribute to the end product. And the advent of internet constellations like Starlink and One web laying groundwork for more demand to come, spurred me to begin my studies and invest my time in what I hoped to be my future.
CodeCademy has been my primary learning tool. I've been learning and practicing primarily the PERN stack in the few downtime hours I have outside of work each day. It's made me feel great pride and accomplishment in being able to solve problems and watch my creations come to life.
I believe I could now get much more out of applying what I've been learning in a full-time, real-world setting. Not only accelerating the development of my skills. But also converting what to this point has been just a hobby into a career.
Projects

Capstone Fotomatic
A landing page for a mock camera company. Built using HTML and CSS focusing on Flexbox and responsive design. Multiple of these small projects were done to strengthen my core understanding of CSS and Html fundamentals.

Jammming
A single-page React app that interacts with the Spotify API to allow searching of songs, the building of playlists, and saving those playlists to your Spotify account

Reddit Client
A "from the ground up" build of a React App. As CodeCademy's final front-end project, whose purpose was to exercise all I had learned from wireframing to production for front-end development and also dive into the back end with Node.js to interact with the Reddit API. It was also a group project to gain experience and knowledge in collaborative coding and expanded my use of GitHub.

Portfolio Site
A challenge project from CodeCademy to showcase what I've worked on and as an aid for potential work applications in the future. The design was inspired by Brittany Chiang but altered to test my skills and add my personal flair.
